Oh, Cecil! If only you could tell us your story. You’re such a handsome fellow, yet you’re a little reserved and uncertain with strangers. But you just love to snuggle up with the younger cats, like a kindly father. With a gentle approach, you welcome petting and appreciate loving attention. We think whoever takes the time and coaxes you out of your shell will be rewarded with a wonderful new best friend. Cecil, we just know your new family is out there, and you will discover each other soon. A home with other gentle cats would be ideal.

We noticed that Cecil seemed to have a vision issue. We knew he could see but it seemed that he had trouble understanding what he was seeing. So we took him to Dr. McCalla, a veterinary eye specialist in Bellingham. This is what Dr. McCalla wrote in her report about Cecil:

"Cecil is a great cat. He is shy and sensitive, and I believe that he was born with a condition that makes him see the world differently because the nerves that travel from the retina to his brain are miswired and make it confusing for him to interpret the signals sent to his brain from his eyes. We see with our brains and not our eyes - the eyes are the collecting instruments and the optic nerve is the freeway connecting the eyes to the brain. Siamese cats and other types of cats with blue eyes can have this condition too, but they usually compensate for it by crossing their eyes. Cecil does not have the ability to compensate for this miswiring, and so he struggles to understand the objects and images in his environment. He does a fairly good job with this, but it is important that he be an indoor cat and that his environment be stable. This will help reduce his stress greatly."

Cecil would be most happy in a quiet home without children. He likes to be petted and likes other cats.
